Abhishek Bachchan escapes Delhi blast due to traffic jam

A traffic snarl proved providential for Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan, who decided to turn back just as he was nearing Connaught Place to attend a function there Saturday evening - minutes before two blasts shook the area.

His father, Amitabh Bachchan, wrote on his blog, "Shattered and shocked he called to say he was alright."

"Abhishek had left in the afternoon for New Delhi and was on his way to Connaught Place for a function he had to attend. Minutes away from there, the traffic became a snarl and he knew he would not make it in time so he asked to turn back. And the blast happened just then," Amitabh wrote on his blog www.bigb.bigadda.com on Sunday.

Abhishek was here as part of a media promotional event and to shoot for the last scenes of his "Dilli 6". However, he had to cancel his programme after the blast, considering the gravity of the situation, his father wrote.

"He was just not able to conduct them (activities). Cancelled them. It would have been too insensitive," he wrote.

The veteran actor revealed that his son has left a decision on whether to continue the shooting to the producers.

"He has left the decision to the producers. Cancelling would be interpreted as succumbing to the threat. I wonder what they decide."

Amitabh also expressed his grief for the victims of Saturday's serial blasts.

"Jaya and I sit alone in the house, our hearts still with the tragedy in Delhi. What of those who bore the brunt - innocent unaware and victims."

"We live in difficult times. What kind of an environment are we leaving behind for our next generation? Or do we not concern ourselves with that? We need peace and harmony," he concluded.

The serial blasts - two each in Connaught Place and Greater Kailash M-Block market and one in Gaffar Market - left 23 people dead and around 100 injured.

Directed by Rituparno Ghosh, 'The Last Lear'is the celebration of a larger-than-life personality who is consumed by his art.

The turban is slowly and surely finding its way with our very own Bollywood actors. After Akshay Kumar's super-duper sardar act in the blockbuster Singh Is Kinng, every actor worth his salt is donning the pagdi these days. By now its common knowledge that Salman Khan would be seen playing a sardar in Samir Karnik's multi-starrer Heroes and even chocolate boy Ranbir Kapoor is all set to play a sardar in Shimit Amit's next. Now the latest actor to don a pagdi is none other than cool dude Saif Ali Khan.

Saif was seen shooting in this completely new get up for his as yet untitled home production directed by Imtiaz Ali. The film pairs Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone for the first time. The unit recently shot in and around the Lake Market area of Kolkata. In order to avoid any disruptions during the 4 day shoot, the hawkers, vendors etc. were given adequate compensation.

As for Saif's get up, the buzz is that he sports this look during certain flashback sequences in the film. Whether the audiences will warm up to this avatar of 'Chhote Nawab', only time will tell but going by the increasing number of actors donning a pagdi, we can't help but agree that Singh is indeed King.

Shahrukh Khan (born November 2, 1965) is a wellknown Bollywood actor, producer, and was recently the host of the popular game show, "Kaun Banega Crorepati". Shahrukh Khan has established himself as one of the most prominent leading actors of Bollywood.

He was born to a Muslim family but was raised by Hindus for most of his life. His father's name Taj Mohammed Khan, who was from the famous Pashtun Niazi tribe, was a freedom activist of Punjabi Pathan background. His mother Lateef Fatima,was the adopted daughter of Major General Shah Nawaz Khan of the Janjua Rajput clan, who served as a General in the Indian National Army of Subash Chandra Bose.

Khan's father came to Delhi from the Kissa Kahani Bazaar in Peshawar now in Pakistan, before the Partition of India.His mother's family came from Rawalpindi which is also in Pakistan now. Shahrukh Khan has a sister .Her name is Shehnaz, who is lovingly known as Lalarukh.
Shahrukh Khan attended St. Columba's School . He was good not only in acdemics but also in sports and drama . He won the Sword of Honour, an annual award given to the student who embodies most the spirit of the school. Then he attended the Hansraj College (1985-1988) to earn an Honors degree in Economics. Next, he completed his Masters Degree in Mass Communications from Jamia Millia Islamia University.

After the death of his parents, Khan moved from New Delhi to Mumbai in 1991. In 1991, he married Gauri Khan in a Hindu wedding ceremony. The couple has two children, son Aryan (born in 1997) and daughter Suhana (born in 2000).

Shahrukh Khan started his acting career in 1988 with the popular television serial named Fauji where he played the role of Commando Abhimanyu Rai.Then he appeared in another television serials such as "Circus"(1989), based upon the life of circus performers. That same year he also had a minor role in the television film named "In Which Annie Gives it Those Ones".It was written by Arundhati Roy and was based on life at Delhi University.

After the death of his parents Khan moved from New Delhi to Mumbai in 1991. He made his Bollywood film debut in the movie"Deewana" (1992) which was a super hit and launched his career in Bollywood.Shahrukh Khan made his presence felt in movie in spite of the presence of established actors like Rishi Kapoor and Divya Bharati. The year 1996 was a unlucky year for Shahrukh Khan as all his films released that year flopped. In 1997 he made a great comeback, with Yash Chopra's "Dil to Pagal Hai" which went on to be the year's second highest grossing film. He was also praised for his performance in the film.

That same year he also had another hit with Subhash Ghai's "Pardes" ."Pardes" was one of the biggest hits of that year.He also appeared in Aziz Mirza's moderately successful film "Yes Boss".Khan was welcomed with similar success in 1998 starring in Karan Johar's directional debut "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai" which was the biggest hit of the year and won him his third Best Actor award at the Filmfare. He was critically acclaimed for his performance in Mani Ratnam's" Dil Se" . Although the movie did not do well at the box office in India, but it earned good collections overseas.

His most recent film was the sports film "Chak De India" which released on August 10, 2007. Khan received good reviews for his performance as the coach of a girl's hockey team in the film and the film is doing well at the box office despite a slow start.He recently made a cameo appearance in Farah Khan's brother Sajid Khan's directorial debut "Heyy Babyy" which released on August 24, 2007. His other forthcoming release is "Om Shanti Om".

He is also producing and starring in Farah Khan's Om Shanti Om which is due for release in November and making a cameo appearance in Farah Khan's brother Sajid Khan's directorial debut Heyy Babyy.Khan has also produced some of the films he has starred in. Khan was chosen as the host of the third series of the popular game show Kaun Banega Crorepati, in 2007 taking over from the original host Amitabh Bachchan who had hosted the show from 2000 to 2005. Sunil Shetty(born 11 August 1961) is an Indian film actor and film producer who is mainly active in Bollywood. He was born in Mulki, near Mangalore.

Sunil Shetty made his acting debut in the 1992 film Balwaan which was a moderate success. His first major hit was the 1994 action thriller Mohra. Later that year he also had another hit with the romantic drama film Dilwale and the comedy film Gopi Kishan where he played a double role. He went on to star in many films throughout the 1990s mostly in the action genre. In 1997 he was critically acclaimed for his role in the war epic Border (1997). He went onto play patriotic roles in films such as Refugee (2001), Qayamat: City Under Threat (2003) and LOC: Kargil (2003). He won his first Filmfare award for Best Villain in 2000 for his performance in Dhadkan.

His father Sunil Dutt was also a politician who campaigned for the Congress Party of India.Sanjay Dutt's sister, Namrata, married actor Kumar Gaurav, the son of yesteryears Bollywood star Rajendra Kumar.His sister Priya contested and won the election for her father's constituency and is now a Member of Parliament.
He has a daughter (by his marriage to his first wife) named Trishala who lives in New York with her grandparents and aunt. Sanjay Dutt married Richa Sharma in 1987 (a small-time actress discovered by Dev Anand) who had nursed him back from a lung injury. A year later, the couple had a baby girl, Trishala. Just two months after Trishala's birth, Risha was diagnosed with cancer and the couple separated. Richa moved to United States with her daughter to live with her parents while Dutt pursued his career in Bollywood. After his wife succumbed to brain tumor in 1996, a bitter custody battle between Dutt and his in-laws over the custody of his only daughter ensued, which Dutt lost.

After resurrecting his career with the mega hit "Saajan" and his first Filmfare nomination for the best actor in a lead role, Charges were filed against the actor for his alleged involvement in the 1993 Mumbai bombings. Sanjay Dutt spent more than 18 months in Arthur Road Jail in Mumbai.

After being released from jail, Dutt married Reha Pillai but the marriage did not last too long and the couple divorced in 2005 after spending the last few years apart.He has no children by his marriage to socialite Rhea Pillay.
On 31 July 2007, Sanjay Dutt was sentenced to a jail term of 6 years for illegal possession of firearms acquired from terrorist acquaintances, who were responsible for the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts. On August 20, 2007, the Supreme Court of India granted him interim bail.

Saif Ali Khan ( born 16 August 1970 in New Delhi, India) is National Film Award winning Indian actor who stars in Bollywood films. He is the son of the Nawab of Pataudi, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, and the actress Sharmila Tagore. His sister is actress Soha Ali Khan.

Saif Ali Khan was born into the family of the Nawabs of Pataudi. His grandfather, Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi, was the Nawab of Pataudi as well as an accomplished cricketer who played for England and then for India as the captain of the team. His paternal grandmother was Sajida Sultan, Begum of Bhopal and his great-uncle was Nawabzada Sher Ali Khan Pataudi.

His father, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, like Nawab of Pataudi Sr., was not only the Nawab of Pataudi but also a former captain of the Indian cricket team. His mother, Sharmila Tagore, is a Bengali Indian film actress,head of the Indian film censorship board and a relative of the Nobel laureate - Rabindranath Tagore.Saif is also distantly related to the late Nafisa Joseph through his mother. Khan has two sisters: Soha Ali Khan and Saba Ali Khan.

He attended Lockers Park Prep School, then followed in his father's footsteps by attending Winchester College, a famous independent school for boys in England.

Saif was meant to make his debut in "Bekhudi" (1992) opposite Kajol but the film took off without him.

He made his Bollywood debut in the 1992 film "Parampara". For his next film "Aashiq Awara" (1993) he won the Filmfare Best Debut Award. His breakthrough role came in 1994 with "Yeh Dillagi" starring opposite Kajol and Akshay Kumar which was his first major hit.Khan went on to star in many films but they failed at the box office. He only had success with multi-starrer hits like Main Khiladi Tu Anari (1994)," Kachche Dhaage" (1999) and "Hum Saath-Saath Hain: We Stand United" (1999).After some box office failures he had a hit with the film "Kya Kehna" (2000).

He has since had many box office successes such as "Kal Ho Na Ho" (2003),"Hum Tum" (2004)[15] and "Salaam Namaste" (2005).He won lots of critical acclaim for his performance in a rare negative role for the film "Ek Hasina Thi" (2004) and for "Parineeta" (2005). His performance in "Hum Tum" won him the National Film Award for Best Actor.

He married actress Amrita Singh in October 1991. They divorced in 2004. They have two children, a daughter named Sara and a son named Ibrahim, both of whom live with their mother.Khan currently lives in Mumbai.Saif recently broke up with his long-time girlfriend, Rozza Catalino.

Saif was hospitalized at Leelawati Hospital, Mumbai, on February 18, 2007. He had experienced chest pains during rehearsals for the Grand Finale performance at Stardust Awards, to be held that night.Many film personalities came to see the actor in hospital. After hospitalisation he gave up smoking.

Anil has many film industry connections. His father, Surinder Kapoor, is a film producer. His elder brother, Boney Kapoor, is a successful producer whose banner is Narsimha Films.His younger brother Sanjay Kapoor is also a well known Bollywood actor though not as successful . He is the brother-in-law of the actress Sridevi with whom he has starred in many films.His sister Reena is married to Sandeep Marwah of the famous Marwah Films & Video Studios in Noida Film City. Anil's daughter, Sonam Kapoor, is starring in a film with Rishi Kapoor's son, Ranbir Kapoor.

Anil grew up in Chembur, Mumbai and went to Our Lady of Perpetual Succour High School.
He was the second child of his parents.He was a shy but happy go lucky kid during his childhood. His father, Surinder Kapoor was then the secretary to Shammi Kapoor and subsequently started producing films. His mother, Nirmal (Suchitra) was a house wife. His childhood was quite ordinary and spent in a Mumbai chawl at Tilak Nagar - Chembur.But he was always a bit of a dreamer and would play around all day bare-foot collecting empty cigarette packets and "Gold Spot" bottle caps, never coming home before night.

At the age of Seven,he got his first break.He played the young Shashi Kapoor in a film called "Tu Payal Main Geet". Bur unluckily, the film was never released, but right from then, he realised that this is what he wanted to do for the rest of my life.

Anil recently turned producer of the film "Gandhi, My Father" which focuses on the relationship between Mahatma Gandhi and his son Harilal Gandhi. The film released on August 3, 2007.

Although successful as an actor mainly in the 1980s and 1990s, Anil has had a bad stint as a producer, when his latest film, "Gandhi my Father", though heavily appreciated by critics, failing to do well the box office. His earlier film as both producer and star "Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja" produced by the Kapoor family was also a huge disaster at the box office. Anil has been unlucky as a producer.

He married Sunita Kapoor in 1984; the couple have two daughters and a son.Both of them first `met' on the telephone. Anil got her number from a common friend .After talking with eachother over phone for a couple of months , they decided to meet.And Anil fell in love with her at first sight. Sunita was a top model, living in a posh apartment whereas Anil was just a struggler with an attitude and big dreams at that time.Inspite of all differences they fell in love with each other.Their relationship deepened and matured for over 5 years.

Vishal Devgan , born (April 2, 1967 in Delhi, India), popularly known as Ajay Devgan is an actor working in the Hindi film industry (Bollywood). Beginning as an action hero in the early 1990s, Devgan matured early in his career, as is widely regarded now as one of the finest actors in the industry.

He is originally from Punjab. His father is Veeru Devgan, a director and stunt man. His brother is Anil Devgan, a film director in Bollywood.

He did his schooling from Silver Beach High School in Juhu & graduated in Mithibai College.His debut film was Phool Aur Kaante, where he played opposite Amrish Puri and which started his Bollywood career and for which he won a Filmfare Best Debut award.

Though most of his earlier movies were action films, he broke this trend when he starred in the comedy Ishq in which he acted with his future wife Kajol.This was followed by critically acclaimed hits like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Zakhm which earned him a National Award. Devgan married the successful actress Kajol on February 24, 1999. They have one daughter, Nysa Mukherjee- Devgan, born April 20, 2003.

Aamir Hussain Khan (born March 14, 1965) in Mumbai, India, is a highly acclaimed and a prominent National Film Award-winning Indian film actor and producer.

Being a part of several commercially successful movies and delivering highly acclaimed performances, he has established himself as one of the top and most successful leading actors of Hindi cinema.

Aamir was born in Mumbai into a Shia Muslim family that has been actively involved in the Indian film-industry. He is a descendant of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad and is originally from Shahbaad, Uttar Pradesh.His father Tahir Hussain is a producer; his uncle Nasir Hussain was a director. He has acted in a few films directed by his cousin Mansoor Khan. His brother Faisal Khan is an actor, and they have co-starred in the 2000 film Mela. His cousin Tariq was an actor in the 1970s who notably appeared in "Yaadon Ki Baraat" and "Hum Kisi Se Kum Nahin".

Appearing as a child actor in Yaadon Ki Baaraat (1973), Khan's career started eleven years later with the film, Holi (1984). He received his first commercial success with Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988) and won a Filmfare Best Debut Award for his performance in the film. After eight previous nominations during the 1980s and 1990s, he received his first Filmfare Best Actor Award for his performance in "Raja Hindustani" (1996), his biggest commercial success so far.

He won acclaim for his role in the Academy Award nominated Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India (2001) and received his second Best Actor award at the Filmfare ceremony as well as numerous other awards. Taking a four year break from acting, Aamir made his comeback with Ketan Mehta's "The Rising" (2005).

He fell in love with Reena Dutta (a Hindu). As Muslims, his parents did not approve of her. As soon as he turned 21, he proposed to her. She accepted and their marriage stayed a secret for a while.Reena Dutta made a brief appearance in a song sequence in Khan's first film, though not a professional actress and already married to him at that time.

It was big news when the marriage was first revealed. Reena Dutta maintained a very low profile and continued her job working in a travel agency.However, Aamir's popularity survived the revelation, and his marriage to Reena seemed to have survived too. They had two children (son Junaid and daughter Aira) and led a quiet, publicity-shunning family life. Reena was even involved, briefly, in Aamir's career when she worked as a producer for Lagaan.

Then in December 2002, Aamir filed for divorce. Reena took custody of the children. On December 28, 2005, Aamir married again, to Kiran Rao, who had been an assistant to director Ashutosh Gowariker during the filming of Lagaan.
